4th March 2000

Julia has very quickly mastered the art of crawling. She crawls everywhere at great speed. Up to now, we could leave her in a room for a few minutes and be certain she'd stay there. Now, she can't be left alone even for a few seconds without crawling all over the house. We've installed various barriers to stop her going where she shouldn't.

1st March 2000

Julia's first tooth has appeared at last. It's only just visible, but very noticeable if she bites your finger! This is quite a bit later than most babies, but we're told it's a good sign: the later the teeth appear the stronger they are.

27th February 2000

Julia can crawl! Yesterday she managed a few steps, and today she crawled all over the house.

19th February 2000

Julia has worked out how to sit up by herself. From a hands-and-knees position she pushes herself backwards onto her bottom and sits up. She can almost crawl now. She can support herself on hands and knees, and can even move a couple of steps backwards, but hasn't quite worked out how to move forwards.

29th January 2000

Julia has finally mastered the art of sitting up. She can sit up straight for an indefinite period, without flopping forward or falling over backwards.

20th January 2000

Julia is getting more mobile by the day. She can roll over very quickly, crossing the room in seconds, and can also turn round, so she can move in any direction she wants. She can also sit up in a fashion, although she falls over often.

18th January 2000

Julia is now using a highchair for meals. She loves it, because it means she has a great view of what is going on around her. It also means she can share meals with us.

15th January 2000

Julia is now sleeping through the night again. We've been trying to get her to bed a little earlier each night, and the effort seems to be paying off. She now gets to bed at 11pm or sometimes earlier.

1st January 2000

Julia saw in the New Year with us, and stayed up until 2am! We're all a bit exhausted, as the excitement of the Christmas period has disrupted her sleep quite a bit. She's been going to bed very late, and waking up several times each night.

28th December 1999

We are now using a pushchair to get Julia around, as she has outgrown the pram. Click here for an animated picture of the pram (170K).

27th December 1999

A visit by our friends Graham and Belinda, their son Jago and their baby Tom.

26th December 1999

A family party at Granny and Grandpa's house in Bournemouth, also with Aunt Sally, Auntie Gillian and Auntie Vi. Pictures are here.

25th December 1999

Julia's first Christmas! As expected, she received loads of presents, and was thoroughly spoilt by everybody! Favourite presents included a toy mobile phone and a laughing Santa. Christmas pictures are here.

19th December 1999

Julia's parents took her to visit her Auntie Gillian in Ashford, and also saw her Granny and Grandpa there.

16th December 1999

Julia can almost sit up without any support. She can sit with her arms braced against her legs, but eventually falls over after a minute or two.

6th December 1999

Six months old today! Julia seems to be growing up fast. She now tucks in to her solid food with gusto. She has solid food twice a day, and can eat rusks and sembei holding them herself. She continues to roll over a lot, and tries to sit up. She quickly reaches out for anything within her grasp, and so needs watching carefully!

21st November 1999

Julia continues to roll over whenever she gets the chance, but once on her tummy she tends to get stuck and starts crying!

14th November 1999

Julia can now roll over! Lying on her back, she can now roll over onto her tummy.

11th November 1999

Julia seems to have recovered from her vaccinations quite quickly this time. She only had a temperature for a day, and is now sleeping through the night again.

9th November 1999

Julia had her third and final set of vaccinations today. She was a bit fractious during the day, and was running a temperature. We're bracing ourselves for a disturbed night!

7th November 1999

Julia broke her sleep record! She went to bed at around midnight (normal time for her!) and didn't wake until almost 9 o'clock!

5th November 1999

Julia's sleep pattern has been rather irregular over the last couple of weeks. We think this is due to having had more visitors than usual. She also had her second round of vaccinations, which didn't help matters. We are going to reduce the number of visitors in the hope this will calm her down again.

15th-17th October 1999

Julia's Granny and Grandpa came for the weekend, to babysit whilst her parents went to a wedding.

14th October 1999

Julia seems to have recovered from her vaccinations at last.

12th October 1999

Julia had her second set of vaccinations today. She didn't cry much at the time, but, as expected, has been extremely bad-tempered since and is running a temperature.

6th October 1999

Julia is four months old! She is now starting on solid food. She has some baby rice and milk each day. She still seems a bit uncertain about it, but always manages to eat a little.

1st October 1999

Julia's hand-eye coordination is improving. She has a big wobbly doll which makes a noise when she pushes it around. She also has a "baby gym" with lots of things to do, including a teddy bear which plays a tune when she pulls a cord.

Julia smiles more every day, and, when really happy, laughs. Sometimes, even on her own, she sits and chuckles to herself!

Julia's sleep pattern is now quite consistent. She usually sleeps from about 11:30pm until about 6:30am. She then has a feed and often sleeps for another couple of hours.

29th September 1999

Julia has her first male admirer! She met baby Henry at the clinic, and he couldn't take his eyes off her! Julia wasn't interested, however.

14th September 1999

Julia now weighs 6kg! Not long now until she breaks the one stone barrier!

12th September 1999

Julia went swimming in the sea today! Well, her big toe did, anyway. The rest of her remained dry during a visit to Worthing on a blustery day.

31st August 1999

Granny, Auntie Machiko and cousin Maiko returned to Japan.

21st August 1999

A family party! Julia's Grandpa, other Granny, Auntie Sally and Auntie Gillian came to visit.

17th August 1999

Julia's granny, Auntie Machiko and cousin Maiko came over from Japan to stay for a fortnight and to help look after Julia.

8th June-7th July 1999

Looking after Julia has been much harder than her parents ever imagined. She suffered badly from colic, which caused great suffering to everybody until we finally managed to cure it. Click here for more information about colic.

7th June 1999

Julia came home this afternoon.

6th June 1999

Julia was born at 7:33am
